The Ipswich Hotel was recently acquired by Brian Keane & the Best Western hotel group. As part of a full building refurbishment they invited Valdivian Furniture to furnish all the bedrooms.
Having seen the work that we had completed to such a high standard on the smaller Brome Grange refurbishment, project manager & owner Brian was happy for us to lead on the design. We produced a mood board of the fabrics, colours and textures that we intended to use. Once the full scheme was approved, we set to work.
The wood we chose for the bed frames and other larger pieces was a mixture of oak veneer & rubber wood. Rubber wood is a hardwood that has already had a life on a rubber plantation producing latex. Historically, the mature trees were burned when they had passed their usefulness – but the timber from these trees is perfect for furniture construction. The rubber wood was stained to a smoked oak tone. All the furniture in the bedrooms is manufactured sustainably by Valdivian Furniture: we made wardrobes, luggage racks, dressing tables, bedside tables, headboards, pelmets, arm chairs, curtains, bed runners & cushions.
